Civitana.ID is the Foundation’s central project. The Civitana Foundation has invested in developing proprietary technology to create and manage citizens’ digital identities through electronic certificates for individuals and qualified electronic signatures.
The aim is to provide this Digital Identity as a Certification Authority. To this end, the Civitana Foundation has become a Trust Service Provider under the European eIDAS Regulation (EU) No 910/2014.
This digital identity provides trust, security, privacy and legitimacy in relationships between citizens and any public or private institution. It is equivalent to digital identities—such as electronic national identity documents—or analogue identities—such as national identity documents or passports—issued by states.
For the first time in history, Civitana.ID represents a paradigm shift that enables citizens to exercise their sovereignty in everyday life, with the aim of enhancing democratic values.
As infrastructure, it enables trusted relationships between citizens, associations and public and private institutions in projects that enhance democracy.

Security and trust
Civitana provides citizens with a digital identity that is as valid and secure as a passport or national identity card issued by the state.
The Civitana Foundation is a European Trust Service Provider and operates in accordance with the eIDAS Regulation (EU) No 910/2014. Identification and signatures completed using Civitana technology have the same legal effect as in-person identification and a handwritten signature.
